New Books, Covid-19 and everything else!

Hello, strangers! It's been just over five years since I last looked at my website. I know, I'm naughty. Naughty, but very busy. Since I last spoke to you, I've released another two books (which you can find info for, and links to buy, on the BOOKS page), joined ranks with my very good friend, and fellow author, James Josiah, to start up a brand new, independent publishing imprint, Black Dream, and in other, non-literary news, I've started my own indie jewelry-making business, L'il Miss Molly, which I'm totally besotted with. I've done very well with it so far and I'm hoping it will go from strength to strength.

Unless you've been living under a rock, in the furthest corner of the world, you'll know that Covid-19 has put a monumental spanner in the works. We've had one, major lock down, and, it would seem, another one is imminent. It's been the strangest of times. Lives have been lost, new ones started. We've had to distance ourselves from family and friends, which, let's be honest, has been bloody horrendous. We've realised just how hard our teachers work as a result of having to home school our little angels. It really has been a testing, trying time.

But, through all the hardship, and the pain, and the uncertainty, I for one, have come to appreciate, love and respect everything I have. I have, in the main, enjoyed every moment I've spent with our daughter. I've loved watching her grow, physically and mentally, and I have cuddled and kissed her when she wasn't feeling her happiest. Our garden has been, and still is, a haven for us, and for the wildlife that frequents it. I've had the time to indulge my passion for amateur astronomy, and astro-photography. I've sat in the garden with my camera, capturing sunsets and sunrises. I've used the same camera to document all the different flora and fauna that lives in our little patch of paradise.

I haven't been able to see my fellow, Soul'd Out UKband members, people who, over the last decade have become firm friends.  So, as we haven't been able to get together to practice, or play live, we've tried to capture the magic of our live performances in lock down music videos. It was a bit tricky at first (trying to get 12 people to record their own audio tracks and videos, and then send them for editing was, let's say, interesting), but they became the highlight of my week. It was a good it excuse to get dolled up, and belt out a number or two. The feedback we received every week was nothing short of amazing, and we'll never be able to thank our ever-growing fan-base enough for all their support in tumultous times.

So, although there's been plenty to be down about, for me, for us, for our family, there's been even more to be glad about.

Shout the Call - Update (the best one yet - it's DONE!)

Well folks, it's finally done. Shout the Call will be with us very, very soon. I have just ordered the proof and once I've done my final checks, it will be ready for general sale. I started this book almost two years ago now. Life has been chaotic and epic since the seed of the story was first planted in my brain but I am absolutely thrilled to tell the world it's finished. As soon as it's available to buy, I'll be straight on here with all the details. There are so many people to thank for all their help, encouragement, support and guidance along the way and they're all mentioned on my 'Thank you' page at the back of the book. I don't care how gushy it sounds, but I couldn't have done any of this without all of them.

I've also got some more book news for you all. I'm about three quarters of the way through the first draft of my fourth book which is entitled, 'If You Should Ever Leave Me' (I'm a huge Beach Boys fan). It's a long way off done yet as I've still to type it up but I'm so excited about it. Anyway, that's a whole other story. Let's get 'Shout the Call' sorted first. Don't worry, I will keep you informed. I'm good like that!

Shout The Call - Update (A long, awaited one at that!)

There is absolutely no excuse as to why I've been so quiet since last September. Well, no, actually - scrap that, there is (quite a few of them it would seem). Shout the Call is finished, at least in the hand written sense anyway. After reading and re-reading the first draft a dozen times, after editing and chopping and making good, I am pleased to say that I have just finished typing up Chapter 24 with the typing of Chapter 25 being imminent. In other 'non-writing' news, and another fantastic reason why I'm taking my time in typing up what I hope will be another cracking read; I am happy to announce that I am now an Auntie to the wonderful Max Paul Fletcher (born on St. George's Day AND Shakespeare's birthday - 23rd April 2014). Molly is enjoying her brand new baby cousing like you wouldn't believe and I am so proud to be her Mum. She started at Stagecoach not so long back and is becoming a true performer, in every sense of the word. I'm happy to see that she gets that from me; you all know I'm up on stage, most weekends, performing with my band, Soul'd Out. The apple never falls far from the tree, right?

Anyway, so this is just to let you know that everything is on track and progressing well with Shout the Call and I seriously cannot wait to get it out to all of you. It's been a real labour of love and is twice the length of Good for Nothing (another reason why it's been taking a while to get it finished). I'm sure (well, at least, I hope) you'll love reading it just as much as I've loved writing it. Keep your eyes peeled folks; Shout the Call is coming for ya!

Shout The Call - Update

So, I know I've been a little quiet just lately, but that's because I've just finished Chapter 14, with Chapter 15 coming imminently. So, because I'm feeling so excited about getting it all finished and because I promised quite a few people, you can read the summary here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lucy-onions-author/shout-the-call-summary/572392472809011, then if that tickles your fancy, you might fancy going on to read the teaser (Chapter 1) here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lucy-onions-author/shout-the-call-chapter-1/572393096142282
